CHRISTOPHER JAMES MASON [break] PERSONALITY [break] methodical | protective | humorous | passive[break][break] Chris seems to have his life in relative order -- or, at least, he's very good at pretending he does. His presence in any situation is accompanied by an asterisk labeled "results may vary." A fair-weather friend by choice and holder of few obligations, he's shied away from the unpredictability of life. He has fallen under the impression that the only way to avoid being hurt is not to take chances. Straying from this established normality is no longer an option. He avoids getting too personally involved with people, making spontaneous decisions, and thinking for too long about the past. This lack of connection with the world around him has left him a bit unobservant, a trait that doesn't match up well with his determination to be in control of himself.[break][break] Each problem and situation must be examined from every angle. He takes as much time as he can to make choices, and if possible, will avoid making them definitively. He'll do anything to avoid actual conflict with other people; more often than not, this means letting them walk all over him. The majority of his attitude is defined by what actions are "safe" and which are not. Even so, he's not a complete killjoy. As long as he's not outside of his comfort zone, Chris is pleasant to be around. He has a well established sense of humour, though he often uses it to deflect, and is typically supportive of his friends. While he isn't the sort to make promises, you can at least rely on him to be around. [break][break] APPEARANCE [break] Chris is rather unremarkable at first glance. He has no outstanding sense of style or definitive traits besides his glasses, which he's rarely seen without. His wardrobe is mostly muted colours, everything toned down as if in respect to something lost. He does put some care into his appearance, though it's not always obvious; his hair has a habit of being slightly unruly even when he's tried his best to tame it.[break][break] The way he carries himself sometimes makes him seem as if he isn't used to his body. He's somewhat clumsy, not to a fault but enough to be embarrassing, and has a habit of not looking where he's going. [break][break] HISTORY [break] Chris was born in San Jose, California to a busy couple. He had no siblings, and would remain an only child for the rest of his life. His father was a hard worker whose attitude toward his son was pleasant but ultimately impersonal, while his mother tried desperately to balance being a good parent with her own job. Chris grew up relatively normally, though his interactions with other children his age were somewhat stilted. Without siblings, he hadn't quite learned the ropes right away; it was likely this initial alienation which caused him to be so invested in others' approval. [break][break] Before he began third grade, his family moved to Los Angeles for the sake of his father's career. This was where he figured things out for himself, and the place he would ultimately remember as home. His proficiency in school earned praise from parents and teachers alike, while his people-pleasing attitude kept him in the good graces of his peers. He cycled through interests, dreams, and passions until his sophomore year of high school, when he decided to focus on the one thing that had held his attention for years -- technology. Outside of school and his somewhat busy social life, he learned what he could about coding and web design.[break][break] When his long-standing best friend, Josh, invited him and the rest of their friends to their lodge at Blackwood Mountain over winter break, he agreed. What better way to celebrate senior year? As it turned out, just about anything else would have been better. An ill-fated prank played by the rest of the group, unknown to Chris and Josh, left the latter's younger sisters lost in a storm over the mountain. Their fun getaway quickly turned into a grim memory.[break][break] Chris finished out that school year with a more solemn outlook, trying his best to support those who'd suffered from the loss while hoping against hope that they would find the girls. He couldn't claim to be surprised when it didn't happen, but the truth of it still stung. He was plagued by the same guilt that they all shared: could he have somehow stopped it?[break][break] The following year, the group was invited back to the lodge for closure. They would finally have the vacation they wanted, and it had been too long since they'd all been together. While Chris was cautious about coming back, he wasn't about to say no; as excited as Josh was, it would have felt like a betrayal. Despite his uneasy feeling about the whole thing, he'd decided to do this -- if not for his own sake, then for everyone else's. But the night took a turn for the worse.[break][break] In what was, unbeknownst to Chris, the second ill-fated prank to be played at Blackwood, he and his friends were plunged into crisis. He and a few others were forced under the impression that they were being manipulated by an unknown, masked murderer. Chris was forced to make decisions directly concerning the lives of himself and his closest friends, unaware that they weren't truly in any danger. When it was revealed that the "murderer" had been Josh all along, the apparent betrayal shook him to his core. But it wasn't over yet. A real danger lurked on that mountain.[break][break] The truth about what happened at Blackwood isn't clear. The survivors' explanations were sparing and terrified, and outside of the interviews after their rescue, not many of them have spoken in depth about it. What's known seems impossible -- tales of monstrous spirits that can twist human bodies into vicious, terrible creatures. What we do know is that not long after Chris' return to Los Angeles and his recovery, he left the city behind. Maybe there was nothing left for him there. [break][break] REASON FOR BEING AT DALTON COVE [break] Chris can't seem to get a firm grip on why he decided to move to Dalton Cove, of all places. He needed somewhere to go that allowed him a fresh start and an escape from the reality of what happened at Blackwood; it seems that this is the perfect place. [break][break] INTERESTING FACTS [break] Nothing about Chris is interesting. Sorry. [break][break] ANYTHING ELSE? [break] switched his playby because there are no good graphics of noah fleiss, and because I have no soul. [break][break] What is the application phrase given in the site's rules?
